Assessment for Learning is advocated as a desirable practice for teachers. Some teachers have experienced confusion over the metalanguage (Assessment for Learning, Assessment of Learning, Assessment as Learning, formative, instructional scaffolding), or the best methods to implement such strategies in schools historically focused on summative practices.
This course is an introduction to Assessment for Learning in the language teaching context (specifically foreign languages, EFL and ESL). Teachers will develop knowledge of the benefits of formative assessment and an understanding of the key principles underpinning effective Assessment for Learning. They will then apply this knowledge to develop their own task (or sequence of learning activities) that reflects the Assessment for Learning principles.
Part 1: What is Assessment for Learning?
Part 2: Principles underpinning effective Assessment for Learning
Part 3: Developing a formative assessment activity
Mode of delivery – This is a 3 hour on-line course with one to one support. The course may be undertaken at times suitable to the teacher pending negotiation with the facilitator.
